Complete project story

What changed, and what BuiltBy2 delivered.

01

Context

  • Independent venues often rely on downloadable menus that are awkward on phones, harder for search engines to understand and easy to leave out of date.
  • The product is designed to sit alongside an existing website and work equally well from Google, social profiles and QR codes.

02

Challenge

  • Guests need to answer practical questions about dishes, prices, allergens and availability without opening several files or zooming around a PDF.
  • Owners need to make frequent changes safely without learning a complex content system or publishing an unfinished draft.

03

What we delivered

  • Responsive, server-rendered menu pages with menu-specific URLs and structured Restaurant and Menu data.
  • A multi-venue architecture with private, membership-based owner access.
  • Editing for serving information, categories, items, prices, availability, allergens and dietary labels.
  • Autosaved drafts, previews, controlled publishing, immutable versions and restore workflows.

04

Our approach

  • The public experience prioritises the questions a guest asks while deciding where and what to eat.
  • The owner workspace separates drafting from publishing, so day-to-day edits stay quick while the live menu remains deliberate and recoverable.
  • One product foundation can support many venue identities without turning every new menu into a separate website build.

01

Current status

The product and public demonstration are live at menus.builtby2.co.uk. Pilot onboarding and operational rollout continue.

02

What we learned

A focused product can replace a surprisingly fragile workflow when the public page and the owner's editing experience are designed together.
